A group of armed men in civilian clothes arrested human rights lawyer Khalil Matouq, executive director of the Syrian Centre for Legal Studies and Research, at a checkpoint on the Syria-Jordan international highway, Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Khalil Matouq was arrested on his way from his house in Sahnaya to his office in Damascus. Khalil Matouq is a prominent human rights lawyer, who has defended many detained human rights activists and journalists in Syria. Following his arrest, Khalil Matouq was taken to an unknown destination where he remains held incommunicado. Khalil Matouq is suffering from some chronic health problems and needs continuous medical care. |
