Violations against Journalists and Photographers Lebanon Protests October 24-25
October 25, 2019

Several violations were carried out against journalists and photographers on October 24, 2019, on the eighth day of the protests across Lebanon. Amal and Hezbollah supporters attacked Nidaa Al-Watan newspaper photographer Ramzi Hajj in Riad Solh square and beat him with a stick on the head to stop him from taking pictures. Others also prevented Al-Hurra channel correspondent Sahar Arnaout from reporting from the field.

MTV reporter Joyce Akiki was insulted by music composer and Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) sympathizer Samir Sfeir while covering the protest held by FPM supporters outside the Baabda justice palace.

Also on that day, protesters insulted OTV reporter Lara Hachem and cast her out of the Zouk Mosbeh demonstration area to ban her from covering their movement.

Violations against journalists and photographers continued on October 25, the ninth day of the protests. Hezbollah supporters assaulted a number of media professionals who were covering their attack with stones and sticks against the protesters in Riad Solh square. Al-Sharq newspaper photographer Ali Faraj, Reuters photographer Alaa Kanaan, AFP photographer Anwar Amro, and MTV crew members were all assaulted. Hezbollah supporters also broke one of MTV’s cameras and prevented The Daily Star reporter Timour Azhari from documenting the clashes.
