The Lebanese voted for people outside the traditional parties and families that have been ruling the country for more than 30 years. The SKeyes Center has been monitoring the positions of Lebanese MPs on freedom of expression and human rights, daily, since June 2022.
Human rights were clearly not the main topic discussed in the last months but received the attention of a fair number of MPs. However, this attention was limited to stated positions and was not translated into legislation, mainly because the Parliament is not entitled to do so given Lebanon’s presidential vacuum.
