Writer Chaker Khazaal Denied Entry to Palestine

Tuesday , 25 February 2020

On February 18, 2020 the Israeli authorities prevented Chaker Khazaal, the Palestinian-Canadian author of “Tale of Tala” from entering Palestine at the Karama crossing for “security reasons.”

“I was on my way back from Jordan, after completing a humanitarian mission with the UNHCR, when the Israeli authorities stopped me at the Karama crossing and questioned me for six hours. The questions were focused on my frequent trips to Lebanon. I told them that I was currently living in Lebanon (where I was also born) and working on my latest book. After the investigation, they issued a notice preventing me from entering Palestine,” Khazaal said in an interview with SKeyes.

“They told me I could appeal to an Israeli court within 30 days to try to cancel the decision; otherwise I would be permanently banned from entering Palestine. And this is why I decided to appeal,” Khazaal added.
